Tatas-owned airline Air India is set to introduce 20 additional weekly flights to Birmingham, London, and San Francisco in the next three months in an effort to strengthen its international presence.
An additional flight to the UK and the US is being offered by Air India
The current schedule of Air India’s flights to the United Kingdom, which includes 34 flights every week, will be expanded to 48 flights every week.
- A total of 9 additional flights will be available from Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad to London
- Birmingham will now have five additional flights from Amritsar and Delhi to Birmingham
In the coming weeks, more than 5,000 additional seats will be offered to customers, with five additional flights a week being offered to Birmingham, nine additional flights to London, and six additional flights a week being offered to San Francisco, according to a release from the airline. Currently, the airline operates 34 flights every week to the UK, but from now on it will be operating 48 flights every week to the UK.
Birmingham will be receiving five additional flights per week, three of which will be from Delhi, and two of which will be from Amritsar. As a result of this increased order, London will receive nine additional flights a week. Of these, five will come from Mumbai, three will come from Delhi, and one will come from Ahmedabad.
There will now be non-stop flights from seven Indian cities to London’s capital as a result of Air India’s new route, the release said. A total of 40 flights per week will be operated by Air India to the US, an increase from 34 per week currently.
Mumbai-San Francisco triweekly service and Bengaluru triweekly service will be reinstated. There will be 16 weekly flights from Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, up from the current 10.
As part of the airline’s ongoing efforts to regain its leadership position on the international aviation map, the additional flights will be introduced gradually from October to December this year.
Campbell Wilson, Air India CEO and MD said the airline’s Vihaan.AI transformation program is focusing on increasing frequency and improving connectivity from major Indian cities to more international destinations.
It comes 10 months after Air India was acquired by the Tata Group, adding new city pairs and improving aircraft cabin interiors in the US and UK. Our intention for this is clear, and it’s the start of something much bigger,” he said.
Besides leasing new aircraft, Air India is restoring existing narrow-body and wide-body aircraft.
In the next five years, Vihaan.AI aims to have a 30% domestic market share and significantly strengthen its international operations as part of its comprehensive transformation plan unveiled in September.
It was announced in January of this year that Tatas would be taking over loss-making Air India and Air India Express.
