A second international airport is soon to open in Nepal. According to Nepal’s Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Prem Ale, the announcement was made. It is reported that the new airport will be called Gautam Buddha International Airport and that it will begin operations on May 26, the day on which Lord Buddha was born. Bhairahawa, in western Nepal, is building a new airport.

After inspecting the airport, the Minister stated that all international flights will be permitted to take off and land at GBIA from May 26, the anniversary of the birth of Lord Buddha.

If an aircraft encountered a technical problem in Nepali skies, it was diverted to Kathmandu. Soon, however, that will all change after the airport opens. Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) is the only airport in Nepal, and it is only open to emergency landings.

It has been arranged at the new airport that emergency landing procedures will be followed according to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Inclement weather now only allows planes to land at Bhairahawa Airport in Nepal.

Engineers of Aero Thai (Aero Thai) have arrived in Nepal for a flight test to verify whether the new airport is technically sound. During the calibration flight, the team of experts will assess if the flight equipment is functioning properly.

Officials from the airport have announced that a team of Aero Thai experts is working on the operation of the airport during Buddha Jayanti. In accordance with reports, testing and calibration will be completed within one month.
