Air India Issues Advisory For International Passengers Regarding Recheck-in of Baggage

Indian airline Air India, now owned by Tata Sons, issued an advisory on Thursday informing international travelers that it will now require them to check in their luggage again if they are connecting to a domestic destination in India after landing in the country.

In any case, the travelers must complete this process at the first point of entry, regardless of whether they have completed a “thorough check-in” at their origin foreign destination.

Regardless of whether they checked in up until they arrived at their final destination, Air India’s advisory stated this was done in compliance with regulatory requirements.

In addition, onboard announcements will be made to inform passengers of the policy change.

Air India Advisory For Recheck-in of Baggage

Passengers arriving from international destinations and connecting to a domestic destination are requested to recheck-in their bags at the first port of entry. This is as per the regulatory requirement regardless of through check-in done till the final destination.

Example: Passengers coming from USA Passengers connecting to Jaipur via Delhi are Advisory required to recheck-in their bags at Delhi after clearing Immigration and customs.

For foreigners flying to India, this means they must collect their bags at the international arrival belt at their first port of entry, then check them in for their connecting domestic flight at the domestic terminal.

Additionally, if international passengers need assistance or support upon arrival in India, they can contact Air India’s ground staff.
