Shokhuvi Railway Station: Nagaland Gets Second Railway Station After 100 Years

Nagaland Gets Second Railway Station After 100 Years

Nagaland finally received its second railway station after more than a decade of waiting with the commissioning of Shokhuvi Railway Station. The state is celebrating a historic day because of the following reasons. Dimapur was the first station to be inaugurated in 1903. The Donyi Polo Express was flagged off from Shokhuvi after the inauguration by the Chief Minister, Neiphu Tio. The train runs daily between Guwahati, Assam, and Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh, and has now been extended to Nagaland.

Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh will now have direct rail connections with this latest development. There are reports that the CM has requested railway officials to expand Dimapur Railway Station. The project will not only benefit the people of Nagaland, but also those of Manipur and Assam, its neighboring states.

CM also tweeted, “Today marks a historic occasion for Nagaland. We’re getting the 2nd railway terminal passenger services on the Dhansari-Shokhuvi railway line after more than 100 years. We are delighted to flag off the Donyi Polo Express, which connects N’land & Manipur passengers to Guwahati, from Shokhuvi station.. “

Anshul Gupta, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) General Manager, told the media that Indian Railways working with NFR will help connect the capital states of the northeast. Additionally, this railway will allow for a more time-bound exploration of the Northeastern states.

Construction is underway on the 90-km board gauge route from Dhanisiri in Assam to Zubza in Kohima district of Nagaland. The foundation stone was laid in 2016. There was an earlier deadline of 2020, but it has now been extended to 2024. Additionally, a line is planned to connect New Kohima and Imphal to Aizawl.
