There has been a report that the strategic road to Lipulekh near the Chinese border which will be used for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will be completed by the year 2024.

There is a push from the government for early completion of this work, so it is expected that the Border Roads Organization will speed up the work and complete it sooner than expected. This comes as a result of the government’s push for early completion of the project. According to Lt Gen Harpal Singh, the Indian Army’s Engineer in Chief, a large number of stretches have already been completed.

In addition to this, he stated that they hoped to have finished the work on the road by the year 2024, which would allow pilgrims to use their vehicles all the way to the last point in India.

Upon completion of the project, it is expected to greatly aid pilgrims in their travels. If reports are to be believed, then the pilgrims will be able to reduce their travel time by almost a week after the project is completed.

Moreover, the lieutenant general also said that the government has been providing all the necessary support to the project and that heavy-lift helicopters have been used to transport equipment to higher altitudes. A tunnel will also be built at some points along the route in order to reduce the amount of time that is required to reach the designated spot, he said.

As part of the new route, pilgrims will have to travel to Pithorgath and then to Lipulekh Pass, which is located near the Chinese border, in order to reach the sanctuary.

A note must be made regarding the fact that there is an additional route for undertaking the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra, which is through Nathu La in Sikkim and involves around 1500 km of road travel through territory controlled by China.
