Air India Expands UK Network with New Flights and Services

Air India, a full-service carrier owned by Tata Group in India, has recently extended its network in the UK by incorporating London Gatwick and launching four new services from the airport to Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Kochi, and Goa.

These services were previously operated from London Heathrow, and the airline intends to run three flights a week on each route. The addition of the Gatwick-Goa service will commence on March 28th, and as a result of this expansion, Air India’s UK network now has 49 weekly flights.

Air India has initiated a direct flight from Amritsar to Gatwick, UK, with 18 business class seats and 238 economy class seats on its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.

It plans to operate three flights a week on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday from Amritsar and nine other weekly flights from Ahmedabad, Goa, and Kochi, making it a total of 12 weekly flights to Gatwick.

Moreover, Air India also runs 31 weekly flights to Heathrow, London, Delhi, and Mumbai, with a total of 49 flights per week in the UK, including six flights to Birmingham.

As part of its five-year transformation plan, Vihaan. AI, Air India aims to develop its global network and significantly enhance connectivity between India’s major cities and primary destinations worldwide, establishing itself as India’s Flying Ambassador to the world.

The new flights will satisfy the increasing demand for direct air connectivity from various significant Indian destinations to the UK and from the UK to these popular Indian cities.

Air India has also proclaimed its intention to upgrade its equipment on the London Heathrow to Delhi and Mumbai routes with Boeing 777 aircraft, which will be introduced in May 2023 on the Delhi route. This upgrade will enable passengers flying to the UK to resume first-class service.

Air India anticipates that approximately 500 jobs will be generated in the UK due to fleet expansion and new services.

According to Campbell Wilson, CEO and MD of Air India, the new services will enhance connectivity between India’s major cities and primary global destinations and satisfy the growing demand for direct air connectivity from various significant destinations in India to the UK and from the UK to these popular cities in India.
