According to a tweet from the Civil Aviation Ministry on Monday, India’s domestic air traffic reached an all-time high of 456,082 passengers in a single day on Sunday, exceeding pre-Covid levels. This is a positive indication that the aviation sector is recovering from the economic impact of the pandemic.
Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia expressed his enthusiasm about the growth of the civil aviation sector, which is breaking new records every day. He noted that the increasing number of domestic air passengers is a sign of India’s rising prosperity.
The average daily domestic passenger number before Covid-19 was 398,579, indicating that the current increase in passenger traffic has surpassed pre-pandemic levels. On Sunday, 2,978 flights carried the total number of passengers, a significant increase over the pre-Covid average.
The latest data from the aviation regulator DGCA revealed that in March 2023, domestic carriers flew 128.93 lakh passengers, a 21.4% increase from the same period in the previous year. The airlines carried 375.04 lakh passengers between January and March, representing a steady recovery in the sector.
IndiGo maintained its position as the leading domestic carrier with a 56.8% market share, while TATA Group Airlines held a 25.3% market share.
