NPCI Launches UPI One World Wallet for International Travelers Visiting India

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced the ‘UPI One World’ wallet, a game-changer for international travelers visiting India. This innovative service aims to provide tourists with a seamless, real-time digital payment experience, simplifying their ability to explore India’s rich cultural heritage and vibrant landscapes. This service will also be available to the distinguished delegates attending the World Heritage Committee meeting in New Delhi from July 21-31, 2024.

Enhancing the Visitor Experience

The ‘UPI One World’ wallet is designed to make digital transactions in India effortless and secure. With this service, international visitors can fully immerse themselves in India’s diverse experiences, all facilitated by the convenience of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments. Initially launched during the G20 summit hosted by India last year, the wallet’s availability has now been extended to travelers from many more countries.

How to Access the UPI One World Wallet

Here are the steps to avail the UPI One World service:

  1. Download the Issuer App: Begin by downloading the issuer app and signing in.
  2. Verify Documents: Physically verify your documents (Passport and Valid Visa) at the issuer counter.
  3. Issuance of UPI One World: Get the UPI One World wallet issued on your international mobile number.
  4. Load INR Value: Load the desired amount in INR by either:
    • Exchanging foreign currency at the issuer counter with the help of Forex experts.
    • Using a Credit Card or Debit Card.
  5. Use the Wallet: Utilize the preloaded INR at various merchant outlets.
  6. Encash Remaining Balance: Before departure, encash any remaining balance loaded in the wallet.

This initiative by NPCI highlights India’s leadership in the global digital payments landscape, providing the international community with an opportunity to engage with and benefit from India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) success story. In June 2024 alone, UPI processed close to 14 billion transactions valued at INR 20.07 trillion (~USD 240 billion), showcasing the system’s robustness and widespread adoption.
