A new update has been made by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration concerning COVID-19 testing for incoming tourists. Visitors entering Port Blair, regardless of their country of origin or type of vaccination, who are asymptomatic and fully vaccinated, will no longer be required to carry a negative RT-PCR test report.
According to Dr. V Candavelou, Principal Secretary, Health and Civil Aviation, fully vaccinated individuals are required to produce their final vaccination certificate at the Port Blair airport and seaport, as well as in the mainland.
The RT-PCR test report must be no older than 48 hours before the scheduled arrival for those who are partially vaccinated, unvaccinated, or symptomatic of COVID-19.
RT-PCR tests must also be performed on arrival at the Port Blair airport before they are released from quarantine. Should their tests come back positive, they must adhere to quarantine protocols.
In addition, the administration asked the airlines to ensure appropriate COVID behavior. In February, the authorities announced that all tourist spots would be open for tourism activities. Movement is no longer restricted, and night curfews have also been lifted.
The Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair will also remain closed for runway repairs until May 2022, according to reports.
