The Australian government has announced the end of the requirement for travellers from abroad to report COVID-19 vaccination status.
Secretary for Home Affairs Clare O’Neil and Health Minister Mark Butler on Sunday announced that starting on Wednesday, visitors who arrive in Australia do not need to sign a Digital Passenger Declaration (DPD) to verify the status of their vaccination.
It is the end of the restrictions on travel to Australia’s international destinations nearly two years after they first came into effect in March of 2020 in order to stop the spread of Covid-19.
“As increasing numbers of people travel internationally and we become more confident in gauging the danger of Covid, our airports get busier,” O’Neil said in an announcement.
“Removing these regulations will not only cut down on the time it takes to travel through our airports but will attract more travellers as well as skilled employees to select Australia as an option for a vacation destination.”
Anyone travelling to Australia will be obliged to wear masks throughout the flight.
The announcement was made as Covid-19 cases continue to increase in Australia.
On the morning of Monday, Australia reported more than 250,000 new cases of Covid-19 and 25 deaths. There were 24 of them in Victoria, along with one case located in New South Wales.

Butler declared that “it is quite evident” that the number of cases is likely to increase within the next couple of months.
“It puts stress on hospitals, with more than 3,000 patients being admitted to hospitals today because of Covid. We’re still seeing 300 or more deaths each week from Covid,” Butler told reporters on Sunday.
“We haven’t yet gotten yet immune to the virus, and that’s the reason I keep reminding the public to take three doses of vaccine.”
