Below is a list of the most important temples in Barsana.
1. Shriji Temple
Radha, Radha’s beloved name and the beloved companion of Krishna, is Radha Shriji. Barsana’s Bhanugarh temple is approximately 5000 years old and is located on top of one of the oldest hills in the city. Radha’s temple is also known as Ladli Lal Ji temple. This red stone temple was renovated and restored by a Vaishnavite, Narayan Bhatt. The temple was built during the reign of Akbar, a secular king who believed in equality between religions. In other words, its architecture reflects that of the Mughal era.
In addition to its spectacular sculptures, the temple has magnificent paintings that adorn its walls. On the road to the hilltop temple, Radha’s temple was built by the daughter of Vrishbhanu. Mathura tourism must include a trip to Shriji Temple, a landmark destination.
2. Radha Kushalbihari Temple
A Rajput king constructed the beautiful temple of Kushal Bihari to honor Radha-Krishna, a great devotee of the divine couple. Sleek and beautiful carvings can be found inside the temple carved in sandstone. The premises are centered around a beautiful and graceful idol of Shri Radha. In a dream, Radha is believed to have asked King not to inaugurate the temple because it is not the original place where Radha or Ladliji belongs to.
In the Kushal Bihari temple, however, you can still find beautiful idols of Krishna, Radha, and their allies in beautiful postures of Ladliji or Radhaji who had been built by the king in their place of origin. Mathura tourism would be incomplete without visiting this beautiful location during a Barsana tour.
3. Dan Bihari Temple
The temple has a famous story associated with donations. The name Dan-Bihari means donates and Bihari means Krishna. Poor Brahmins once couldn’t afford to attend their daughter’s marriage, so they remembered Krishna in grief. The poor Brahmin was given the gold equivalent to the weight of Radha by Shri Krishna.
4. Maan Mandir
Lord Krishna used to plead with Radha to delight her from this place when Radha went into the quietness when irritated. There is a small tunnel in Maan Mandir that leads to a dark room where Goddess Radha usually sat.
