After pilgrims died during the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand, a committee of experts said elderly people and those suffering from ailments should only travel after getting their health checks. The committee concluded that the Covid significantly increases the risk of traveling to higher Himalayan regions from the plains.

Radhika Jha, the state health secretary, said the panel recommended the elderly and those suffering from Covid and other ailments avoid travel until they have been examined.

Over 60 percent of the people who died during the Yatra were suffering from serious illnesses, according to the report filed on Sunday.

According to this article, people should spend 20-48 hours adjusting to a new location during a trip.

112 pilgrims have died since the start of the Char Dham Yatra on May 3.

A health checkup is also conducted on the Yatra route for pilgrims over the age of 50. He said 87 people have so far been asked to return after finding themselves unfit.

For the first time, air ambulances have been provided to pilgrims to provide fast medical aid. Ample supplies of oxygen are also available at all medical facilities, Jha added.

Jha said specialists have been trained and posted in major hospitals along the Yatra route for the first time in order to effectively treat patients with heart disease. The Char Dhams are located at high altitudes in Uttarakhand, which are 2700 meters above sea level, so pilgrims with comorbidities that are exposed to extremely cold conditions may suffer health problems.
