This annual cultural festival, organized by the Government of Assam, takes place in the Tinsukia district, Assam, in the small tea town of Lekhapani. The festival is named after the majestic Patkai range and the mischievous Dehing River. Assam’s Patkai Festival combines tribal fairs, tea heritage tours, golfing, adventure sports, and wildlife pleasure trips.
When is the Dehing Patkai Festival?
In 2023, the first Dehing Patkai Festival will take place between the 16th and 19th of January.
Dehing Patkai Festival of Assam showcases the diverse cultural heritage of the state:
1. Tribal Fairs
The festival is organized by several indigenous Assamese communities. These tribal fairs are incredibly fun, educational, and unique. As a matter of fact, you can’t experience the vibrant culture and food of tribal villages without visiting. But the festival gives them the opportunity.
2. Tea Heritage Tours
During the Dehing-Patkai Festival, there will be tours to the famous tea gardens where you can see the whole process of tea-making.
3. Wildlife Trips
Nature walks and elephant safaris can be done to see the beautiful landscapes of Assam and the natural treasures it has to offer.
4. Heritage Trips
Digboi Oil Field and refinery are also visited by visitors. Digboi Refinery was established on December 11, 1901. In addition to visiting the Second World War cemeteries, visitors are also taken on a tour of the old Stilwell Road, built by the allied soldiers during the war. Once, this was Myanmar’s main passage.
5. Adventure Sports
In addition to adventure sports such as parasailing, kayaking, and angling, the banks of the Brahmaputra River offer a number of other activities.
