E-Passports are soon to be issued in India to make international travel easier

According to the latest announcement, the central government is preparing to roll out electronic passports to facilitate international travel and protect against identity theft. S Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister, addressed the occasion of Passport Sewa Diwas.

He informed the public about the latest development and reiterated the government’s commitment to improving citizen experience and public delivery. He said that they would continue to deliver the best citizen experience possible.

How Will E-Passports In India Work?

India’s electronic passport will comply with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. With RFID and biometrics in the new passports, passage through immigration check-ins will be easier, faster, and more convenient. A chip is embedded in the jacket of the passport. On the chip will be encodings of vital data related to security. S Jaishankar, the Minister of External Affairs, had earlier stated that the Ministry was in talks with India Security Press about the e-Passport project.

He said the government had also set a new record in dealing with increased demand from the pandemic. The average monthly number of applicants was 9.0 lakhs, and the different applications were granted at 4.50 lakhs each month.

The Minister of External Affairs also announced that the Passport Seva Programme would launch an improved and enhanced version of PSP V2.0 to create a digital ecosystem and provide better citizen passport services.

He said this would allow for smooth governance through standardized and liberalized processes and the use of new and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Chat-Bot, Big-Data, Advance Analytics, and Use of Big-Data.

Indian citizens will also be able to use ePassports, making it easier to travel internationally and protect against identity theft, and they will also have greater data security.

He explained that the DigiLocker system had been integrated into the Passport Seva System to allow for paperless documentation.
