A Covid-19 vaccination or travel insurance certificate will no longer be required for international travelers to Fiji as of February 14. Fiji’s Covid-19 Risk Mitigation Taskforce (CRMT) was decided after carefully considering the global and national Covid-19 situation. No protocols, restrictions, or Covid-19 tests are required for arrivals by air or sea.
Announcing the decision, Tourism Fiji CEO, Brent Hill, encourages tourists to visit Fiji. However, he urges them to have travel insurance and take precautions to stay healthy.
Before the pandemic, Fiji welcomed more than 800,000 foreign tourists per year. Tourism accounts for approximately 40% of the country’s gross domestic product. Having opened its borders in December 2021, Fiji had a strong rebound in 2022, exceeding its expectations with 636,312 visitors.
Covid-19 vaccinations and travel insurance coverage were previously required for all travelers over the age of 16. Fiji’s low hospitalization rates are attributed to a community-wide vaccination policy and an in-country surveillance system, according to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services. Covid-19-safe measures must be implemented around those vulnerable.
In Fiji, 95% of the adult population is vaccinated, with booster shots given to eligible individuals. Although Fiji no longer needs to implement Covid-19 border health measures, border authorities will maintain community surveillance for early warning of future threats and review border health measures.
