According to flight tracking site FlightAware the computer issue has affected more than a thousand flights throughout the United States. Due to the system’s failure, many travellers are stuck inside and outside the United States.
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has reported an outage that affected updating the Notice to Air Missions System (NOTAMs) that prevented the release of all flights.
The FAA stated that domestic departures from the US are now suspended until 9:00 hours Eastern Time, or 7:30 midnight IST, “to allow the agency to verify the authenticity of safety and flight information”, the FAA stated.
“We are monitoring reports of a malfunction in the NOTAM system that could impact flights in the US,” said Flight Radar in a tweet.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is working to fix the problem that has been affecting Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and passengers should confirm whether their flights are operating as scheduled.
“The FAA is working to fix a national system issue affecting flights this morning. Check your flight status, and we’ll provide updates as soon as the FAA releases updates,” Los Angeles airport tweeted.
In a separate news release, the airport stated, “The FAA is still working to restore fully to full functionality the Notice of Air Missions system following an interruption. While certain functions are starting to become operational, National Airspace System operations remain restricted.”
Additionally, the FAA has also ordered airlines to suspend flights to the domestic market until 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time to let the agency verify the authenticity of flight and safety data.
