Gol Gumbaz essentially serves as the resting palace for Mohammed Adil Shah and his immediate family. Designed by Yaqut of Dabul, the tomb was constructed on the order of Adil Shah after he became the Sultan in 1626. The interesting aspect of construction lies in its obstruction after the death of Adil Shah. The further construction was carried on by successors which added a unique charm to the tomb.

- The center of attraction is the four octagonal pillars on every side that serves as the holding pillar. The design set in the early 15th century represents architecture at its finest. Each of these pillars has galleries on the top floor that you would love to explore.

How to reach Gol Gumbaz
- The most common way to reach Gol Gumbaz is from the Bijapur Railway Station. You can get down at the station and walk for 10 minutes to reach the tomb.
- Visitors also love driving from Bangalore to Bijapur as it comes with the advantage of experiencing scenic beauty.
- Bijapur Bus Stand is another option. If you are travelling from Bangalore then there are more than 30 buses running to Bijapur.
- Belgaum is the nearest airport and it takes you approx 4 hours to drive from the airport to Gumbaz.
