Good news for those who love adventure and are visiting Himachal Pradesh! The Himachal Pradesh government has lifted the restriction on aero and water sports. Travelers can now enjoy paragliding, river rafting, and other sports. However, people who want to take a trek excursion on high-altitude mountains cannot go on a trek as such activities have been restricted.
If you don’t know, the Himachal government has imposed an interdiction from July until late September (every year) for paragliding by Himachal Pradesh Aero Sports Rules, 2004, and other adventure sports under the Himachal Pradesh Miscellaneous rules for adventure activities 2017.
However, now that the monsoon season has ended, government officials removed the temporary ban. Kullu-Manali is a nexus of adventure sports, and many tourists come to Himachal for these sports.
Regarding trekking, as far as it is concerned, the sport is restricted in the state until further notice, as high peaks in the state have been experiencing snowfall, and a substantial drop in temperatures has also been observed. Recently, there have been numerous situations where trekkers were left trapped, and the state had to intervene. Therefore, a ban has been put in place for treks on passes and mountains higher than 15000 feet.
Hoteliers are content and hoping that resuming adventure-based activities will increase tourist numbers in the region. The life expectancy of the people of Himachal largely depends on these adventures.
Sunayana Sharma, tourism development officer at Kullu Sunayana Sharma, tourism development officer at Kullu, said, “The ban is in place each year between mid-July and mid-September when weather conditions in monsoon render these sports dangerous. Operators with legal permits and equipment can play the sport currently.”
Himachal expects a massive tourism surge following September 25, as it is the peak of the famous Hindu festivals of Navratras and Dussehra, as well as Diwali.
