IndiGo, an Indian budget airline, has launched a direct flight to Bahrain from Mumbai (West India). Bahrain is the latest addition to the Indian carrier network after Covid.
IndiGo announced that its new flight service to Bahrain would be operated as a daily flight starting Monday.
India’s biggest airline, according to market share, stated that it plans to launch additional flights to Bahrain from other Indian cities starting in October.
IndiGo’s 25th international destination is Bahrain.
Sanjay Kumar (chief strategy and revenue officer at IndiGo) stated that the new flights would improve international connectivity and boost trade, commerce, and tourism between Bahrain, and India.
He stated that the carrier would work to provide affordable fares, prompt performance, and hassle-free service for its new service from Bahrain to its vast network.
Ayman Zainal (chief commercial officer, Bahrain Airport Company) stated that BAC was ready to rise in international airlines by launching the new passenger terminal.
“We are committed to working with our partners to develop new routes that will connect Bahrain with the rest of the world. In keeping with this, we look forward to working with IndiGo to provide an enhanced travel experience for its clients,” Zainal stated.
IndiGo has been increasing its operations in the Gulf sector. IndiGo launched two new services last month, one to Abu Dhabi and one to Dammam, Saudi Arabia, from the Thiruvananthapuram international airport in Kerala.
While the Thiruvananthapuram-Dammam flight operates daily, the flight to Abu Dhabi thrice a week – Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Indian airlines have been aggressively expanding their network to the Middle East and especially the UAE in recent months. This is due to a recent surge in air travel demand between India and the UAE.
Industry data shows that the UAE-India sector saw a staggering 136 percent increase in air traffic during the first half of the year compared to the previous year.
Despite a notable rise of 17 percent in airfares between the UAE and India in June, this spike in air travel demand has not been noticed.
Dubai is the most popular transit airport for Indian travelers to travel to Western destinations, such as the USA, UK, Europe, and Canada.
IndiGo has 279 aircraft in its fleet and flies to 24 destinations worldwide. It also connects 73 Indian destinations with approximately 1,600 daily flights.
Among the carrier’s fleet are 146 new generations A320 NEOs, 37 A320 CEOs, 35 ATRs, and 63 A321 NEOs.
