The Hong Kong government announced that it would lift the ban on nine countries that include Britain as well as the US, Australia, Canada, France, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and the Philippines. The city has imposed an air ban on the majority of the nations in January, due to the emergence of COVID-19, the Omicron variation of COVID-19.

Carrie Lam, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong made the announcement at a press conference on Monday. Lam added, “The experts are of the view that it’s not appropriate to allocate finite resources to the mass-testing of all people. Lam added that the SAR government will continue to keep an eye on the situation. If the conditions are favorable and we are able to do so, we should introduce the universal test that is mandatory.”

The changes will be being followed by an interim review of COVID-19 guidelines. In a detailed explanation of the situation, Lam said that they must listen to experts locally as well as from the mainland, to develop the long-term development of a public health plan.

At present, Hong Kong will maintain social distancing, and, if there’s not a rise in COVID-19 infections The measure will be lifted in phases beginning on April 21. In addition, the government is expected to lift the restriction for dining out after 6 pm, and will also allow the reopening of gyms and massage parlors.
