Long-term travellers have been captivated by the legendary Orient Express. Murder on the Orient Express was written by the famous detective novelist, Agatha Christie in 1934. Featuring Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer, a movie was made recently based on the novel. A legend and popular culture quickly grew around the luxury train.
A superfast train was invented in 1977, however, which led to the abandonment of the train. But Italy is bringing back the iconic train experience with brand new trains and journeys. By 2023, it will once again be on the track.
In addition to 14 points of interest in Italy, travelers will be able to discover Paris, Istanbul, Split, and Croatia with the new Orient Express La Dolce Vita service. Train guests will be able to stay onboard for one to three nights. The six routes are up to guests to choose from, but every trip will include a stopover in Rome. A Orient Express hotel will also open in Rome in 2024, the Minerva, the first of its kind.
The trains will be able to accommodate 62 people each. The deluxe cabins and suite rooms will both be available. Orient Express La Dolce Vita trains will celebrate the glamour and artistic fervor of ‘La Dolce Vita’, a period of great artistic fervor in Italy in the 1960s.
A few items from the past are included in the new train, including terra-cotta paint and tongue-and-groove ceilings. There will be a sophisticated dining experience aboard the train, where passengers will be able to enjoy exotic recipes prepared by famous Italian chefs. Travelers will also be able to enjoy award-winning Italian wines.
