Jammu will host the 10-day-long annual Jhiri Mela this year following a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. Thousands of devotees are expected to visit the fair to seek blessings from Baba Jittoo’s temple after a two-year absence.

Under the joint aegis of the District Administration and the Directorate of Tourism, the fair will take place for ten days until November 16. Traditionally, this mela is held during Karthik Purnima to pay obeisance to Baba Jittoo in village Jhiri and to seek his blessings.

As a result, a representative in the know-how stated that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure that the Mela runs smoothly.

There are approximately one lakh visitors every day from different parts of the country who attend the Mela.

The government has organized special awareness stalls to inform farmers about the various technologies and schemes being introduced to benefit them. This is because farmers are the majority of attendees at this mela.

A key objective of this mela is to promote regional sports and cultural diversity, as well as to make these resources more accessible to the general public.

More than 10 lakh devotees are expected to attend the fair to commemorate the sacrifice of the Baba from across the Jammu region and neighboring states including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana.

Devotees may also take a customary dip in Baba-da-Talab, a natural pond situated approximately 4 km from the temple, which is believed to be curative.
