There is a temple known as Kartik Swami Temple in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. This temple is believed to be more than 200 years old, which many people might not be aware of. It has been decided that the Uttarakhand Tourism Department is developing this temple to woo tourists and devotees from the south. This is to make sure that people are aware of this historic place.

The importance of the temple

As the only shrine dedicated to Lord Kartikeya in Uttarakhand, the temple holds both religious and cultural significance. For those not familiar with the mythology, Kartikeya is the elder son of Shiva and Parvati, worshipped as Skand or Murugun in the south.

Location of Kartik Swamy Temple

From Kanakchauri village, devotees take a 3-kilometer trek to reach the temple, which is 40 km from Rudraprayag.

“Kartik Swamy temple has enormous religious significance in Hindu mythology”, said Satpal Maharaj, Uttarakhand’s tourism minister, speaking about its mythological significance. In this temple, Lord Kartikeya offered his bones to his parents as a testimony of his devotion. This was because both were asked to circumnavigate the earth because he was angry at them for favoring their other son Lord Ganesha.

It is now time to develop and promote this historic temple that has been on the tourism map for a long time. This will attract tourists from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.

According to Poonam Chand, additional director of tourism, this winter’s promotional campaigns are aimed at promoting Kartik Swamy temple and other circuits.
