The Malaysian government plans to ease more Covid-19 measures starting next month, including lifting restrictions on those who are not vaccinated against the virus and ending the requirement to wear masks outside.
Despite a stepped-up vaccination campaign, Covid-19 outbreaks have subsided in Southeast Asia amid severe outbreaks.
On Wednesday, he told reporters that all people will be permitted to enter public buildings, except those who have been tested positive for Covid-19 or those who are undergoing quarantine.
For travelers who have fully recovered from Covid-19 and those who have just flown out of Malaysia, the country will also remove pre-flight testing requirements. For public transport and indoor activities, masks are required, he said.
Over 30,000 cases were reported in the country at the height of the Omicron outbreak last month, but the number has since slowed to about 3,300 infections per day on Wednesday. About 82 percent of Malaysia’s 32 million people are fully vaccinated, while half of them have received a booster shot.
