If you plan to travel to Manali and camp in a tent, the Himachal, the state’s government, prohibits camping without approval.

That means you have to be granted permission by the forest department and the administration to set up tents and camps in Manali.

The decision aims to stop illegal camping within the forest areas of Kullu and Manali.

It is worth noting that several hoteliers and hospitality unit owners have complained about certain business people illegally erecting a large number of tents in remote locations close to Manali.

A local hotelier claims business people from other states have set up camp inside the woods in Hamta, Bhrigu, Beas Kund, Chanderkhani, and other places. The hotelier also says they get permission from the Forest Department to set up five or six tents, then put up 25-30 tents and refuse to get rid of them.

The Himachal Pradesh government has requested officials to inspect any illegal camping sites and remove permanent illegal campsites.

INR 50 Fees For Entering Forest Areas

In addition to banning illegal tents, The state government is also making a tax of 50 rupees on all who want to enter the forests in Kullu and Manali.

A specific team has been put together to ensure the job is accomplished. Checkpoints will be set up throughout the area, particularly near the start of popular hiking routes.

Illegal Camping In Manali

A meeting was recently held at Manali where the topic was illegal camping areas, and the decision was made to destroy all sites of this kind. In the words of Surender Thakur, who is the Manali Sub-divisional Magistrate, there were numerous complaints regarding the illegal and permanent camping that has been occurring in forests.

“These campsites litter the areas and pollute the water sources. A strict approach will be taken to stop this occurrence,” said Thakur.

As per reports, a group will establish checkpoints for temporary periods to ensure that permits conform to HP Adventure Activities Rules.

The first checkpoint will be set up at the Hamta Pass Trek to regulate camping and hiking. It is among the most well-known and well-loved trekking routes within Himachal Pradesh.

The department of forest issues camping permits and camping will be restricted to areas of a minimum of 25 meters from streams of water. Camping alone is not permitted until authorization has been granted.
