Boosting tourism in Western Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced on Saturday the establishment of a “Garo Heritage Village” in the West Garo Hills district for a cost of INR 10 crore.
It is reported that the museum will showcase the culture and tradition of the Garo community at Chibragre locality in Tura, the headquarters of the West Garo Hills district, although the chief minister did not elaborate further.
Tourists will be attracted to the “Garo Heritage Village” by various infrastructure projects. In an address on the last day of the Wangala festival in this district, the chief minister announced the project. Check out: the package for 3 Nights 4 Days Meghalaya Tour.
As part of this initiative, the government has earmarked INR 10 crore to develop a Garo Heritage Village, Sangma tweeted later. The chief minister presented a cheque for INR 20 lakh to the 100 Drums Wangala Festival Committee through the deputy commissioner for the year for hosting the festival.
