Ministry of Tourism Planning Roadmap for Wellness and Medical Tourism

Lok Sabha was informed on Monday that the ministry of tourism has drafted a national strategy and road map for medical and wellness tourism.

G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, responded in a written response that tourism has experienced negative growth during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A National Strategy and Roadmap for Medical and Wellness Tourism was formulated by the Ministry of Tourism to create a framework and synergy among the central government ministries, the state governments, and the private sector to promote India as a medical and wellness tourism destination.

Additionally, he stated that the ministry has established a National Medical and Wellness Tourism Board with the tourism minister as its chairman in order to provide a dedicated institutional framework to promote medical tourism.

In addition to print and electronic campaigns, the ministry runs online and offline campaigns in important and potential markets overseas, under the ‘Incredible India’ brand line to promote tourism destinations and products of India, Reddy said.

Digital promotions are also conducted regularly through the ministry’s social media accounts on various topics, including medical tourism.

A ‘Medical Visa’ can be granted on a specific purpose basis to foreign nationals coming to India for medical treatment, he said, adding that an ‘e-Medical Visa’ and an ‘e-Medical Attendant Visa’ are also now available to 156 countries.
