Goa is set to welcome the second airport of its international nature, Mopa Airport, and it’s scheduled to open on September 1st, 2022. Mopa Airport Mopa Airport is a greenfield airport located in Pernem and is expected to decrease a significant amount of air traffic from the current airport, Dabolim Airport, the state’s sole airport.
The airport currently operating, Dabolim Airport is located within a military airbase INS Hansa and is used by the Indian Navy. Mopa Airport, as a civilian airport, is aiming to increase tourist flow in the State, as it can cater to civil travelers at full capacity.
Over eight million international and domestic visitors go to Goa every year This makes Goa one of the most sought-after destinations for tourism in the nation. With the opening of the new civil airport, the state hopes to witness an increase in the number of tourists.
This is in conjunction with the many changes which have taken place in the tourism sector of the state. From heli-tourism to improved security on beaches to ecotourism in forests, there are many more options available to travelers, and an airport will be an enormous help.
It is worth noting the fact that Dabolim Airport is located in South Goa, whereas, Mopa Airport is in North Goa which is located 35km from the capital city, Panjim. North Goa is where you will find some of the most beautiful architectural structures. Examples are Bom Jesus Basilica, Chapora Fort, and Fort Aguada among others. Locations such as Chorao Island, Grande Islands, and beaches like Querim, Coco, Vagator, Anjuna, Baga, Calangute, and Candolim are some of the most sought-after tourist spots in Goa.
