As part of significant development, Qatar has announced that it will no longer require foreign visitors to undergo quarantine requirements to travel to the FIFA World Cup 2022. International travelers will be able to travel more easily and transit more quickly after this move.

All travelers arriving from abroad will no longer be required to undergo hotel quarantine following the scrapping of the ‘Red Risk Classification. Visitors from countries on the red list, including India, were previously needed to spend one day in quarantine.

In the next two months, the Gulf nation plans to host a mega-sports extravaganza expected to attract close to 1.5 million visitors. A FIFA World Cup will be hosted by Qatar between November 20 and December 18, 2022. Here is everything you need to know about traveling to Qatar for a sporting event.

Qatar travel requirements:

Those who test positive for COVID-19 after arriving in Qatar must undergo quarantine measures according to local procedures, even though quarantine is no longer mandatory.

In order to enter Qatar, visitors must bring a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate that cannot be older than 48 hours or a rapid antigen test certificate that is valid for 24 hours after landing. Travel purposes will not be allowed with the rapid antigen self-test.

The Ehteraz mobile app must also be installed on the smartphone, which can be activated using a local or international SIM card. The website (www.ehteraz.gov.qa) will require travelers to register online three days before arrival for the pre-entry registration system.

For access to public facilities around Qatar, the said mobile application with a health status of ‘Green’ will be required.

AstraZeneca (Covishield / Oxford / Vaxzevria), Pfizer / BioNTech (Comirnaty), Moderna (SpikeVax), and Jansen / Johnson & Johnson (only one dose) are the vaccines that Qatar authorities approved for entry. It is important to note that Sinopharm, Sinovac, Sputnik V, and Covaxin manufactured in India are conditionally approved vaccines.

Qatar visas-on-arrival is valid for 30 days for Indian passport holders. As of November 1, 2022, foreigners traveling to Qatar will need a Hayya Card in order to enter the country. You must also get a Hayya Card during the tournament period if you are not planning on attending the FIFA World Cup.
