Steps to Acquire the ILP
- Standard Permits: Foreigners can get an ILP at no cost. The prerequisites include a passport-sized photo and copies of one’s passport and visa. Key checkpoints to obtain the ILP include:
- Melli and Rangpo (8 am to 7.30 pm)
- Bagdogra Airport’s Sikkim Tourism Booth (10 am to 4 pm)
- Sikkim Houses in Kolkata or Delhi during working hours (excluding bank holidays)
- Sikkim Tourist Office in Siliguri during working hours (excluding bank holidays)
- Pakyong Airport
- Online Application: In today’s digital age, one can also apply for an ILP online. However, it’s essential to get it stamped at any Sikkim border checkpost to validate it.
Who Can Issue the ILP?
Several authorities can issue the ILP, including Indian Missions Abroad, Ministry of Home Affairs, Foreigners Registration Officers, and specific immigration officers at major airports like Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and New Delhi.
Validity and Extensions
The standard ILP is valid for 15 days. If foreigners wish to prolong their stay, they can request an extension, granted twice for an additional 30 days each. Only the State Government has the authority to approve these extensions.
Cancellations
In unforeseen circumstances, such as military actions or security threats, the ILP can be revoked within two hours without prior notice. In such cases, the fee for the ILP is non-refundable.
