On August 16, the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri will reopen to devotees. The same has recently been declared by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA). To give access to the shrine, worshipers must submit an RT-PCR negative report, according to SJTA.

Because the seaside resort of Puri is now under weekend lockdowns, the SJTA has likewise declared that the temple would be closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

It should be emphasized, however, that the temple will reopen in stages. As a result, from August 16, the temple will only allow citizens of Puri or the local area to pray. This will take place until August 20, following which the temple will be available to all devotees beginning August 23.

According to Krishna Kumar, the Chief Administrator of SJTA, “We will issue a standard operating procedure (SOP) about the darshan system. Kiosks will be set up outside the temple to check the final dose certificates or RT-PCR negative reports of the devotees. While the temple will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays, we will also shut the shrine on the occasions of major festivals to prevent heavy rush of devotees,”

On weekdays, devotees will be allowed to enter the temple from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and it is strongly advised that no bhog or lamps be offered or lit in the temple.

Devotees have also been instructed not to touch any of the temple’s statues or buildings. Before the temple reopens, a COVID testing camp will be set up for all personnel.
