Chief Minister Hemant Soren recently inaugurated a 95-acre park that was built to preserve fossils that date back to the Jurassic period. In Sahebganj’s Rajmahal hills, this fossil park in the Mandro Block has been built at a cost of INR 10.79 crore to generate employment for the locals, as well as promote eco-tourism.
The Chief Minister noted that Jharkhand is proud to be home to one of the world’s greatest treasures. He added that Mandro hill is one of the world’s rarest fossil-finding locations.
In addition to his next visit to the park, Soren said he’ll stay for a day to learn more about the fossils.
Reports state that several Jurassic-era plants and animals have been discovered on Rajmahal hills, dating back between 200 million and 145 million years. The first comprehensive study of the fossils was conducted by palaeobotanist Birbal Sahani, according to records.

A divisional forest officer (DFO), Sahebganj, Manish Tiwary told the media the park has several facilities, including a mini-lab, a museum and auditorium, and a complex for eco-tourism. It was developed with the objective of generating awareness about the need for fossil preservation, eco-tourism promotion, and creating livelihood opportunities for locals.
As he revealed more about the park, he said that private vehicles will not be permitted and that only battery-operated auto-rickshaws would ply the streets. According to him, there will be a rest house where researchers and students can stay and study.
