Travelling Ladakh? Tourist Acclimatisation in Leh is mandatory for 48 Hours

Leh Ladakh

Now, if you’re planning a trip to Ladakh, you’ll have to be extra cautious. Travelers to Ladakh will have to undergo mandatory acclimatization in Leh for 48 hours before continuing their journey.

The Leh (Ladakh) administration is reportedly taking the steps to reduce acute altitude sickness among tourists; as a result, they have issued an order mandating 48 hours of acclimatization before tourists depart for the cold desert region.

Tashi Gyalson, the Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), called a meeting of tourism industry officials and stakeholders in Leh to discuss issues affecting the tourism sector.

Because Leh is situated at an altitude of 3500 meters above sea level, visitors arriving by air may experience mountain sickness; many tourists suffering from mountain sickness must be hospitalized in Leh.

During the meeting, the officials discussed several topics, including the need for upgraded health facilities to handle medical emergencies, especially at popular tourist attractions at higher elevations in the district.

It was also discussed at the meeting that all stakeholders would be expected to comply with various standards of conduct that the District Administration will formulate with regard to managing visitors entering Leh during peak season, as well as monitoring their health conditions closely.

To further promote awareness among locals involved in the tourism sector, CEC Gyalson instructed all officials and stakeholders to organize joint awareness camps and IEC campaigns.
