Planning to visit Dubai over the summer holidays? During the summer season, approximately 125,000 passengers are expected to use the airport per day, resulting in delays at immigration.
DXB Airport’s Terminal 3 (T3) has Smart Gates installed to prevent such delays, which allow passengers to bypass the immigration queue by passing through the gates instead.
What is Smart Gates at DXB Terminal 3 Dubai?
In just a few seconds, passengers arriving or departing from DXB Terminal 3 can pass through passport control using the Smart Gates, which feature a new contactless process.
By allowing people to pass through the Smart Gates instead of waiting for physical stamps at immigration, the advanced biometric systems have relieved pressure on passport control officers.
Approximately one million passengers have used the 122 smart gates located throughout the airport since the beginning of the year.
How to use Smart Gates Dubai Airport?
– Passing through the Smart Gates is as simple as looking at the green light, and without scanning any documents.
– In case your passport and boarding pass is needed, remove any face-covering items, such as masks, glasses, and hats. Keep your passport and boarding pass with you at all times.
– If you are a tourist, you must scan your Emirates ID or biometric passport.
– You will need to stare directly at the green light on the camera in order to validate your biometrics.
– Once your biometrics have been validated, the Smart Gates will open, and you will be able to complete the passport control process.
Who can use the Smart Gates DXB Terminal 3?
The Smart Gates at DXB Terminal 3 may only be used by people who fit into one of the following categories.
- UAE Nationals and GCC Nationals.
- UAE Residents.
- Guests with biometric passports are eligible for Visa-on-Arrival.
- Registration is required before using the Smart Gates. The immigration checkpoint at DXB likely registered all recent arrivals.
- Who should not use the Smart Gates?
If you belong to one of the following groups, you cannot use the Smart Gates:
- Guests with giant strollers and people of determination.
- Families with children.
- Children under 15 years of age and under 1.2 meters tall.
- UAE citizens who have renewed their passports or who have been abroad for more than six months are not eligible for Smart Gates.
