From August 16th Meghalaya will all reopen holy places. After sixteen months of closing, the State government of Meghalaya officially opened doors to the public for worship.
The state has not immunized even 50% of its population and still has more than 4000 current cases of coronavirus.
Nevertheless, by permitting religious places in the State to reopen since 16 August, the State government opted to remove restrictions. It was reported that during a review meeting, chaired by Meghalaya CEO Conrad K Sangma, a decision was made.
While speaking to the media persons, Deputy Chief Minister of Health and Family Welfare Prestone Tynsong indicated that, with effect from 16th August, all places of worship and religious locations may be reopened. He stated that after getting requests from the stakeholders involved and receiving information from all district administrations, they came to the decision.
He said that there would be a limit, which should not be more than one-third, to the number of persons allowed to attend religious sites or places of worship.
