The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department, in collaboration with the Varanasi Development Authority (VDA), has recently inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU). This strategic partnership aims to elevate the tourism experience in the region by introducing a ‘tent city’ and enhancing the recreational activities available to visitors. Among the new offerings, tourists can look forward to thrilling hot air balloon rides and a variety of water sports activities.
Employment Boost and State’s Vision for Tourism
Jaiveer Singh, the state’s Tourism and Culture Minister, expressed optimism about the MoU’s potential impact. Not only will it enhance the tourism experience, but it will also pave the way for increased employment opportunities for the local populace.
He proudly stated, “At present, Uttar Pradesh is leading in domestic tourism in the country. Our effort is to achieve the top spot in terms of attracting foreign tourists also.”

Kashi Vishwanath Corridor: A Catalyst for Change
The construction of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor has been a game-changer for the city. It has not only transformed the city’s landscape but has also spurred rapid economic and social advancements. Inspired by its success, Jaiveer Singh revealed that the state government is now envisioning a similar corridor in Mathura, drawing inspiration from the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor blueprint.
Expanding Recreational Activities for Tourists
Shedding light on the new initiatives, Principal Secretary Mukesh Kumar Meshram mentioned that hot air balloon rides had previously been introduced in Varanasi on a trial basis. Given the overwhelming positive response from tourists, there are now plans to make this attraction a permanent feature.
He further added, “In view of its popularity, preparations are being made to extend the service permanently. The tourism department is conducting a survey to finalise the water sports that can be launched in the city.”
With these initiatives, Uttar Pradesh is poised to offer an enriched and diverse tourism experience, catering to both domestic and international visitors.
