The famous Uttarakhand Valley of Flowers was recently affected by a significant landslide due to heavy rains that resulted in massive cracks forming along the trail. In the same way, this UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its stunning natural beauty and alpine blooms, will be closed to visitors until further notice. It will reopen after cracks have been repaired, and the route is safe to travel. Recently, an administration team from the district also visited the spot to see if tourists had become trapped in the valley, analyzed the situation, and explored options to bring connectivity back.
The Divisional Forest officer Nand Ballabh Sharma stated that the landslide, which occurred just a bit before Dwaripul, is not uncommon in the natural world. It has a glacier’s point as well as an area of sliding. The officer added that they don’t want to risk anything at the moment, and all roads connecting to the flowers valley have been shut down.

In the meantime, crews have begun to clear the trail, even though rain and landslides affect the stretch. The forest guard said that cracks of immense size had formed and that boulders could fall on the visitors at any moment. The trek route was 10 meters wide, but today there’s only a tiny space left for a person to stand after it’s rained for almost five hours.
The remaining trail will likely be swept away as there’s a requirement to find a different alignment for the trek route to allow for smooth travel of visitors. The forest guard also added.
The Dwaripul Zone, where the landslide occurred, was devastated by the Kedarnath tragedy of 2013. Since then, it has witnessed a series of landslides in desperate need of slope treatments.
