Bodhgaya is situated in the central part of Bihar state, in north-eastern India. It is the component of the plains of the great Ganges. It is situated at the west of the Falgu River, a tributary of the Ganga River (Ganges). It is located 13 km south of Gaya and 113 km south of Patna.
Bodhgaya is a village in the state of Bihar, one of Buddhists' most important pilgrimage sites. It was here that Gautama Buddha achieved salvation under the Bodhi Tree. The place is full of pilgrims all year round who come to the monasteries, shrines, and temples to pay their homage. Owing to its majestic Buddha statue, Mahabodhi Temple and Bodhi tree, it also draws visitors from India and abroad.
Depending on the weather conditions, October to March is ideal for a visit, but tourists flock here all year long. Many monks flock from Dharamshala to Bodh Gaya after October and the town is colored with maroon robes. Over December and January, Dalai Lama spends some time here himself.
