Sikkim is a land of amazing beauty and mesmerizing grandeur. In short, travelers get tranquility, serenity, and peace of mind here. Chungthang is one of the soul-stirring spots in North Sikkim. Nestled on the meeting point of the Lachung and Lachen rivers, the Chungthang town is located at an elevation of 1790m. Moreover, Chungthang serves as among the military bases of India because of the vicinity of the China border.
Buddhists and locals of Chungthang perceive it as a pious destination. Many people believe that Guru Padmasambhava walked throughout Chungthang and took a seat on a rock. Even that rock still carries a crack and footprints of Guru Padmasambhava (according to legend). Chungthang is home to an awe-inspiring paddy field that is considered a natural wonder because Chungthang’s weather is not suitable for the cultivation of paddy. According to another legend, Guru Nanak Dev crossed Chungthang during his journey to Tibet. Two other popular tourist spots in Chungthang are Gurudwara Nanak Lama Chungthang and Amitabh Bachchan Falls.
The small town of Chungthang serves as a halt point before making a journey to Lachen and Lachung. Note that visiting Chungthang would need you to have a prior permit. Since Chungthang is seated at a high elevation, it maintains a cool ambiance than many other places. If you want to visit Chungthang, the ideal time to plan your trip would be the summer and autumn.
