Long winding valleys and roads presents unforgettable sights of snow-crowned and cold desert mountains that greets you when you step in this valley. Surrounded by the Himalayas, Spiti Valley is located at a height of 12,500 feet over the sea level. Spiti Valley separates Tibet from India. It has a very low population and is referred to as a paradise of adventure lovers. There are several trekking trails in the city that delights tourists from all parts of the world. All these treks begin from Kaza (the camping place) to several peaks to get scenic views of the Himalayan range.
A 1.5 km trek through the Spiti river covering Dhankar Monastery and Dhankar Lake provides gorgeous scenes of the village. Dhankar Lake is the ideal place to relax amongst the cool mountain breeze. The hill ropeway that goes from Chichum to Kibber is a popular attraction for tourists. It provides wonderful views of the gorge and captivating views of the enclosing mountain peaks.
An interesting thing about this valley is that it gets only 250 days of sunlight in the whole year. This makes it one of the chilling places in the country. The thick snow-covered Himalayan mountain range in the winters cuts off Spiti off from the remaining parts of the country for six months in a year. The summer is the time when Spiti is accessible through motorways.
