Valmiki Tiger Reserve is the easternmost frontier of India's Himalayan Terai range and is Bihar's only tiger reserve. Located in the country's bio-geographic zone of the Gangetic Plains, the forest has a combination of bhabar and terai tracts. Valmiki Tiger Reserve lies in Bihar's north-westmost district of West Champaran. District name was derived from two words Champa and Aranya, meaning Champa trees wood.
It is distributed over an area of 880 sq. Kilometer. The Valmiki Wildlife Sanctuary (approx) is the safe home for the tigers, one of the world's endangered species. Located at the cradle of the outermost Himalayan ranges Shivalik range, the area has a very undulating landscape consisting of steep elevation and deep ridges with the lush green forest around it.
