Good News: India Resume Scheduled International Flight from March 27

The government has finally announced that scheduled international commercial flights will resume in the country on March 27. This is a welcome development for the tourism industry. Jyotiraditya Scindia, MP for the Union Civil Aviation Ministry, announced that air bubble arrangements would also be discontinued. Since the Covid-19 pandemic struck in March 2020, regular international flights are suspended in the country.

Travel and tourism industries in the country have long demanded the resumption of flight services. Affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the aviation industry eagerly awaited the government’s announcement.

Surprising announcement on the internet, Scindia, in a tweet, said, “After deliberation with stakeholders and keeping in view the decline in the Covid-19 caseload, we have decided to resume international travel from March 27 onwards. Air bubble arrangements will also stand revoked thereafter. With this step, I am confident the sector will reach new heights!”

The DGCA had earlier announced on February 27 that travel and visa restrictions in India would be extended until ‘further orders.’ Airlines and carriers can now announce scheduled international flights to and from India following the lifting of the ban on regular international flights.

Tourism business has been curtailed as a result of the ban on regular international flights due to the effect of Covid-19. After three consecutive seasons of no international tourism, the travel trade and the industry in the country faced immense challenges.

In November 2021, the government decided to resume scheduled international commercial flights. But amid rising fears and panic regarding the new Covid-19 variant, Omicron, the government had to reverse its decision and postpone the move until further orders are received.
