Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport becomes India’s first 5G airport

IGI Airport in Delhi is ranked the world's second busiest airport

India’s first 5G-enabled airport has become Delhi’s IGI Airport, which has become the first airport in the world to do so. The 5G service will be made available inside the terminal once the Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) have rolled out the service to their customers.

There are currently a few Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) that have enabled their networks to facilitate 5G service for their customers, while others are yet to connect over the next few weeks.

“Delhi Airport always remains ahead in bringing new-gen technologies to the passengers. To enhance their experience at the airport we have built our own 5G infrastructure,” said Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO of DIAL.

In addition to providing a faster connection speed and lower latency, Jaipuriar said that the next-generation network will enhance the passenger experience by improving connection density.

Combined signal strength, seamless connectivity, negligible latency, and unimaginable data speeds can be enjoyed by passengers. As a result, airports will be able to make quicker decisions and increase efficiencies. It is now more important than ever as the aviation industry is recovering from the impacts of Covid-19,” elaborated Jaipuriar.

A 5G-enabled mobile phone set and sim card can provide passengers with better signal strength, seamless connectivity, negligible latency, and faster data speed at Terminal 3’s Domestic Departure Pier and International Arrival Baggage area, as well as between T3 Arrivals and Multi-Level Car Parking. Throughout Terminal 3, the deployment will be phased.

DIAL has installed 5G infrastructure at the entrance to the Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP), inside the terminal, and at GMR Aerocity Delhi. Additionally, DIAL plans to set up experience zones where passengers can access 5G mobile technology.
