Nepal has yet again made it mandatory for international passengers to provide COVID-19 negative reports, as Nepal Airlines’ national flag carrier recently announced. In a notice issued to all passengers, the airlines clarified that passengers arriving from international sectors must show proof of their COVID-19 international certificate or PCR negative report.
The latest move comes in response to the increase in COVID-19 cases worldwide, Ganesh Kumar Ghimire, Nepal Airlines joint spokesperson, pointed out. An official from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) confirmed that the decision was taken earlier on December 23, 2022. Ghimire added that in line with this, the notice was issued based on the regulatory body’s decision.
According to reports, the latest decision was taken due to increased COVID cases in China. As a result of the pandemic outbreak in early 2020, the Himalayan nation was closed to tourists but gradually reopened from March 10 last year to tourists. To boost tourism, all pre-arrival tests were removed for fully vaccinated travellers.
Earlier this month, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) said India emerged as Nepal’s top inbound tourist market in 2022 as the key sector in the Himalayan nation’s recovery from the pandemic.
