Char Dham Yatra is the most important pilgrimage in Hinduism, and it is regarded as one of the most significant pilgrimages in India in terms of its cultural and historical significance.

This year’s annual Char Dham Yatra, one of India’s most prominent Hindu pilgrimages, will commence on April 22, 2023, after a winter break of six months.

The yatra covers four holy sites in the mountains of Uttarakhand – Yamunotri in Uttarkashi, Gangotri in the same district, Kedarnath in Rudraprayag district, and Badrinath in Chamoli district, with a total distance of 1,607 km.

Opening Date Chardham Yatra 2023

The Gangotri and Yamunotri Dhams will be open to the public on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya (22 April). At the same time, the Kedarnath Dham will be open to the public on the 25th of April at 6:20 in the morning. While the Badrinath Dham will open on the 27th of April.

However, this year’s Char Dham Yatra has challenges, especially with the land sliding issue in Joshimath, the gateway to Badrinath Dham. Joshimath recently witnessed several alarming cracks in and around the town, including fractured roads, houses, and agricultural fields, indicating the region’s fragile state.

Despite the issue, the authorities have decided to use the Joshimath route for the Char Dham Yatra. The Uttarakhand state government assures pilgrims that the geological problem will not hamper the yatra.

The Char Dham Yatra is an important pilgrimage for Hindus, attracting millions of devotees annually. Pilgrims undertake this yatra to seek spiritual fulfillment, and it is believed that visiting all four shrines in the same journey washes away one’s sins and helps attain salvation.

Update: Mandatory Registration for Char Dham Yatra 2023

Uttarakhand Government Mandates Mandatory Registration for Char Dham Yatra Pilgrims, Orders Alertness for Badrinath Yatra in the wake of Land Subsidence in Joshimath

Uttarakhand issued new directions for Char Dham Yatra, requiring mandatory registration for all pilgrims visiting from April 22, 2023. Strict measures will be implemented to ensure compliance, and no unregistered individuals will be allowed to travel.

Additionally, due to recent land subsidence in Joshimath, the state government has ordered all department officials to be alert and ensure safety during the Badrinath Yatra.

Badrinath Dham is a crucial part of Char Dham, and authorities have decided to use the Joshimath route instead of the Helang Bypass because the bypass is in an initial state of construction. Scientists and environmentalists have raised concerns about the carrying capacity of high-altitude pilgrimage sites in the Himalayan zone where these sites are located.
