Pawapuri is one of those ancient beauties in Bihar, showcasing India's glorious past and telling fascinating legends about its origin.
Pawapuri is a sacred place for the Jains. It is situated in east India's Bihar state district of Nalanda. Long ago, Mall Mahajanpad was the twin city of Pawapuri. Mahajanpad later became a part of the Magadha kingdom, and Ajatshatru was Lord Mahavira's devotee. The King of Pawapuri was identified as Hastipal during the reign of Ajatshatru. Mahavira remained in the King's Rajikshala when at Pawapuri. It is considered a sacred place because, in 500 BC, Lord Mahavira was buried here.
